"Soup of the Day"...just got serious!
Dare I admit this publicly? I was disappointed when the Golf Courses opened. I’d been sneaking onto the cart paths for some of my runs and bike rides with the boys and WOW! The spaces are glorious. That said, I have many loved ones who love to golf. So ultimately, I can be happy.
And while I don’t golf, the sport fascinates me. Given it likely fascinates some of the readers of this blog, I thought I’d share a few observations I thought I’d have some fun looking at Golf through a non-golfer’s lens:
Please feel free to barrage me with emails when I get everything wrong.
As near as I can tell, one of the things that makes Golf such an obsession is the chase for perfection. Golfers will speak about the elusive perfect swing, perfect hole, perfect game. A level of acumen, mastery they have experienced that is not, can not, be consistent. They are driven to continue to play with the hope and knowledge that those glimpses of mastery and near perfection will reappear.
They spend hours at the driving range trying to alter their swing for a better outcome. Analyze and scrutinize putts – theirs and those of their companions – as they seek to understand and improve their short game…
I wonder if more of us could approach our personal relationships thus?
Bring your A game to the course every day.
Swing with confidence, strength, and positive energy.
When you mishit – as you will, or the ball doesn’t respond the way you wanted it to – as it will, do not despair. Rather bring your all to the next swing, tee, or game.
(Did I just refer to my husband as a ball?)
It is impossible to have a perfect swing, a perfect game every time. But you still keep coming back, with passion, curiosity, doggedness, and drive. Knowing that being patient, being open to learning, and embracing the need to change will serve you well. Both short term and definitely in the long haul. Knowing that sometimes working harder, and understanding how and when to adapt, will make your game better, easier, more rewarding, and a whole lot more fun.
Inspiration of the Day
“Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots – but you have to play the ball where it lies.” - Bobby Jones
